Keely Maude Sutton is an assistant professor of religion at Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama. She has a Ph.D. in Asian cultures and languages from The University of Texas at Austin, an MA in religion from Wake Forest University, and a BA in philosophy and religion from Appalachian State University. Her current research is centered on the Muslim song literature of the South Indian state of Kerala, with broader research into multiple religious traditions of South Asia such as Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam. She is also interested in undergraduate pedagogy. She has received several foreign language area studies grants awards and an IIE Graduate Fellowship (Fulbright) in 2011.
